Ahmed Siraj is a distinguished public finance specialist and senior government official with extensive experience in financial management, corporate governance, and policy leadership. He currently serves as the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance (since May 2022), where he oversees the Ministry’s overall operations and strategic functions, ensuring effective policy implementation and institutional performance. In this capacity, he supports high-level government decision-making and provides executive leadership across the Ministry’s mandate.

Siraj is a Director on the Board of Maldives Islamic Bank PLC, representing the Government of the Republic of Maldives. His expertise in public sector finance and governance brings valuable strategic oversight to the banking and financial services sector.

Prior to his current position, he served as Secretary General of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) under the Ministry of Finance from August 2013 to May 2022. During this tenure, he played a pivotal role in strengthening governance frameworks and enhancing oversight of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), earning widespread respect within the public finance and corporate governance community.

Throughout his career, Siraj has held several board and advisory roles, including Board Member of the Capital Market Development Authority and Council Member of the Islamic University of Maldives. He has also previously served on the Boards of SME Development Finance Corporation (SDFC), Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited, and Hazana Maldives Limited.

In recognition of his leadership and contributions to national development, he was awarded the Youth Award of Maldives in 2008 by the President of Maldives. He has also completed numerous professional trainings in public finance, corporate governance, and board directorship.

Siraj holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a major in Project Management from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor of Business Management from the University of Sunderland, UK.
