Mariyam Waheeda
With nearly 28 years of experience in the media industry, she is a respected broadcaster, leader, and educator whose career began as a part-time presenter and evolved into influential national roles. She served a five-year term as President of the Broadcasting Commission, contributing significantly to media governance and regulatory development in the Maldives.
Her academic background reflects both depth and diversity. She holds degrees in Economics, Sociology, and Political Science, an Honours Degree in English Language, and a Master’s in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK.
Beyond broadcasting, she has served for eight years as Ambassador to the Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives and as Honorary Consul for Sweden in the Maldives. She is a recipient of the Outstanding Young Person (TOYP) Award and the National Award for Media Development, recognising her lasting contributions to the media sector.
Today, she works as a freelance Master of Ceremonies, journalism educator, and public speaking coach, mentoring and inspiring the next generation of communicators. Passionate about reading, travel, and engaging with people from diverse backgrounds, she believes continuous learning and human connection are central to growth.
Above all, she considers her most cherished role to be that of a mother to her son, Hawi.
